People used to always ask me, “What are you going to do with a Philosophy and Religion degree?” A degree that is outdated and unnecessary according to many people, it will never get you anywhere in the world! Well, obviously I beg to differ, philosophy and religion are the backbone of the world. We exist because we think (to paraphrase Rene Descartes) and not the other way around. Thinking moves us to contemplate ideas and imagine the world differently and our place amongst the planets and stars. I guess I could expel great theories on the purpose of existence, but I prefer to go the simpler route. I chose to look at my existence through the eyes of my dogs and the natural beauty that surrounds me on a daily basis.
Through this blog and its pages, I hope to help you understand your dog(s) life and purpose, nature’s sacred beauty through photographs, and to leave you to discover and reflect on your own unique philosophy of life. It is my wish that you come to realize as noted by the philosopher, Gottfried W. Leibniz, “We live in the best of all possible worlds.”
It’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of life, becoming a negative and hopeless person, but how much greater can life be if you choose to focus on the positive, the now, the beauty that surrounds you. Look at your dog, do you know what he’s thinking? He’s wondering why we waste so much of life, he’s grateful, loving and carefree, focused on one thing–bringing you happiness. Be your dog, you’ll love life more.
Deborah A. Edwards has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy & Religion from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a minor in Middle East Studies. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2004 before going on to get a Master in Library Science in 2010. In 2012 she left for a five and half year trip to live and work in Saudi Arabia. She has traveled to France, Italy, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Oman, Kuwait, Dubai, Bahrain and the Seychelles where she was able to glimpse the lives of dogs within the backdrop of each unique culture. Each experience helping to shape her beliefs, that the world holds untold knowledge in nature, and that to know dogs is to know life. She lives in rural North Carolina with her husband, David and four furry delightful friends.
